Duane Lyman Berentson

Duane Lyman Berentson died on July 5, 2013 in Mount Vernon, Washington. He was born on November 22, 1928 in Anacortes.

On June 27, 1949, he married Joanne Hawkings. They celebrated their 64rd anniversary this year. Duane is survived by his wife Joanne, and five children, Kristi (Jack) Burns, Dan (Susan) Berentson, David (Judy) Berentson, Karen (Bill) Maston, Colorado, Karol (Scott) Rarig, and 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

He served in the Washington State Legislature representing the 40th District serving Skagit and San Juan counties for 18 years. In 1980, he served as Co-Speaker.

Appointed Secretary of Transport-ation for the State of Washington in 1981, he served in that position for 12 years. An alumnus of Pacific Lutheran University, he served on many boards and committees throughout his life. A service will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Edison Lutheran Church, 14201 Church Rd., Bow, WA 98232.
