Elizabeth Jo "Betty" Blair Obituary
Elizabeth "Betty" Jo Blair

Betty died Dec. 17, 2013 due to complications from vascular dementia. Born in Washington D.C. on Aug. 23, 1941, the only child of Charlie and Jo (Landis) Worthington. Spent her youth moving frequently around the country due to her father's Army career, ending up in Seattle in 8th grade. Graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1959, attended the University of Washington, and much later in life graduated with an Associate's degree from Seattle Central Community College. After high school, was married for 3 years to Thomas Hamilton Enslow, which ended in his death. Married to Faris Blair since 1967; one daughter and son-in-law Sandra and Eric Maddox. Elizabeth stayed home and raised her daughter until she was in high school, then she returned to the workforce, first working for the Ballard YMCA, then the downtown branch of the Seattle Public Library. Some of the important life lessons and values that Elizabeth taught her daughter: the importance of political activism and the empowerment of women, the importance of recycling and bringing your own grocery bags, that whole grain bread is much better for you than white bread, and that reading is contagious. To friends and family, Elizabeth was especially known for always knowing the best books to give to kids, growing exotic plants, her membership later in life in St. Joseph Parish, and her constant neighborhood presence walking the dogs she's had over the years. No services will be held. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Xerces Society (xerces.org), Oceana (oceana.org), or by dedicating a contribution in her name to a woman working to better her life via Kiva (kiva.org).
