Gladdy Kaplan Obituary
Gladdy Kaplan

Gladdy Kaplan (Gladyseen Elaine Miller Kaplan) passed away peacefully Thursday morning, 21 November 2013. Gladdy was preceded in death by Leon, the love of her life and over 70 year soul mate. Their kids Marty, Nancy and Steve were beside her in her last hours as she rested in comfort. Marty's wife Leslie and their daughter Sydney and Steve's wife Sandra were also there. Days before, her whole family including Steve's kids Anna and Jake, and Anna's husband Ryan Eagon and their daughter Grace shared a favorite family dinner, great stories, big laughs and many hugs with Gigi.

Gladdy was the third of four children born to Harry and Anna Miller of Seattle a long time ago. Her two older brothers Robert and Edwin and their wives Marcia and Bobbi preceded her in death. She is survived by her younger sister Muriel and her husband Richard Rubens of Spokane. Gladdy often regaled in wonderful stories about her very loving family.

Whether sporting high heels and a 60's mink stole, worn out Levi's and gardening gloves, a golfing skirt and matching glove, maybe riding breeches and muddy cowboy boots, even a flight suit and helmet, or a smock while delivering puppies, Gladdy was easily at home sporting any outfit. Growing up on Seattle's Capitol Hill, she graduated from Broadway High School and attended the University of Washington joining Phi Sigma Sigma Sorority. At a high school party she met Leon, they married after WWII, and walked side-by-side their whole lives with Great Danes first, then kids and more dogs. A few years ago they celebrated 62 years of marriage bliss. Travelling extensively together, Gladdy shared a bit more of a wild side as she once visited Egypt alone with girlfriend Rena and even obtained her private pilot's license, scaring Leon but inspiring youngest son Steve to fly. Always one to volunteer for her community, she spent many years leading the Council Thrift Shop, Hadassah and many other charities.

A native Seattle gal, she'll forever be missed by those many childhood friends who often gathered weekly for dinner, cards, pan, mahjongg, a round of golf or a trip to the sunshine.

Gladdy's passing leaves a huge hole in the lives of her loving family and friends. Our Memorial Service will take place Monday, 25 November 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Arthur A. Wright Chapel, 520 W. Raye St., Seattle 98119, on Seattle's Queen Anne Hill. Kindly consider remembrances to Overlake Hospital and Kline Galland.
