Jack Brenner, age 79 of Seattle, Washington died unexpectedly of a stroke on February 8. Jack is survived by Midge, his wife of 60 years; daughters Lise Brenner and Jessica Nicholas (Larry Nicholas); grandsons Sam and Andy Nicholas; sister Jeanette Schiel; niece Debra Jackson; nephews Dennis and Doug Schiel. A semi-pro pitcher scouted by the Yankees and the Dodgers, he retired as an English professor at the University of Washington. At UW he was a director of Upward Bound and the Puget Sound Writers Project and was awarded the Distinguished Teacher's Award and two Fulbright lectureships. The 'world's first' Bulgarian baseball coach, Jack was co-founder of the Bulgarian Federation of Baseball. "We love the things we love for what they are" (R. Frost).

A memorial service will be held February 24th, 2-5pm, Graham Visitor's Center, University of Washington Arboretum, Seattle. In lieu of flowers please send donations in his name to Habitat for Humanity.
