James B. Finlay, Attorney|
Jim Finlay born October 22, 1931 died following a brief illness November 1, 2013 at Cherry Hill Swedish Medical Center Hospital, Seattle. His family noted that he was born at the same site where formerly the old Providence Hospital was located.
Mr. Finlay was a practicing attorney for 54 years with some 45 years of his career devoted to his office in Long Beach, WA. Earlier he practiced in Seattle. In 1968, Jim and a colleague from law school days discovered a shortage of attorneys in Pacific County. Soon after, they opened an office at Raymond, WA near the county seat in South Bend, WA. The next year they opened a second law office in Long Beach, WA, and the Finlay family moved there.
He graduated from Roosevelt High School and earned his undergraduate degree in business and his LLD at the University of Washington. Jim met his beloved wife, Marie (Odland), while they were students at the UW. They married in 1954 while Jim was attending Law School. He was a member of Zeta Psi Fraternity where he made lifelong friends.
Jim served in Korea with a United States Marine Corps aviation unit from the former NAS Sand Point during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Finlay is survived by his wife, Marie, and their adult children Leanne, Bruce, Alise and Brett as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Bryce and Helen Finlay of Seattle and his son Jeff and daughter Darcy.
A Mass will be said on Sat., 11/16 at St. Mary's Church, Seaview, WA 98644. There will be a Reception on Sunday 11/17 from 1-4 pm at Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum, Ilwaco, WA 98624.
