Jan Gael Welsh Obituary
Jan Gael Welsh

Born August 24, 1926; died October 27, 2013. Jan was born to Kenneth H. and Lucena Swain in Seattle. She is survived by her husband of thirty eight years, Charles E. (Chuck) Welsh, by her two daughters, Stephanie Jeanne Brockett and Jacqueline Beth Mills, son-in-law Ted Brockett, her sister, Jeanne O'Dell of Vancouver, Washington, and by grandchildren Donald Brockett, Jadriane Schott and Kyle Schott. She attended school in Kent and Vancouver, Washington and graduated from the University of Washington. While at the UW she met Don Mills and they married shortly after. The couple then moved to San Francisco where their daughters were born. The family later returned to the Seattle area. They divorced, and Jan met Chuck who introduced her to downhill skiing, hiking and distance running. She loved all three sports and soon excelled at them. They became her passions. Her professional career was that of Volunteer Coordinator, first at Western State Hospital and later at West Seattle General Hospital. After retirement she became an enthusiastic volunteer herself, donating her time and talents to the Discovery Shop in West Seattle for twenty-three years, as well as knitting hundreds of hats which she donated to the homeless. She also volunteered at Seattle-Tacoma airport for several years as a volunteer until health issues ended that. In her retirement she continued skiing, mostly at Crystal Mountain but occasionally at Sun Valley, Colorado and Austria.

Jan also had a passion for art history, especially painting, and for Major League baseball. She has left a huge void in our lives and will be deeply missed. Donations can be made to .
