As both children attended the University of Washington, Jean then became involved in UW activities. She ultimately was President of the Delta Delta Delta Mother's Club and the Phi Delta Theta Mother's Club and was involved in the Inter-Fraternity Mother's Club and the Inter-Sorority Mother's Club.

She was an avid UW Husky supporter and enjoyed going to 50 + years of football games and attended many a basketball game. She was active in the University of Washington Alumnae Association where, after being on several committees, she became President. She was also involved in the UW Alumni Association.
