Jean Hogan Obituary
Jean was born on Oct. 6, 1926 to Tom and Mary Gertrude Welch in Sparta Wisconsin. Jean lived with her 3 sisters Jane, Betty, and Peggy, and her brother Pat on the family homestead farm her Irish ancestors established. She had a happy childhood on the farm, surrounded by ponies, pets, and family. Her close brother was killed in WWII as a B-17 gunner. In college Jean met Jerry Hogan, a handsome Irishman, and decorated B-17 gunner. They married in 1949 and taught high school in a small Wisconsin town. In 1952, they came to Seattle where Jerry worked on the B-52, and established a career at Boeing. Jean had Peggy, Colleen, Marie, Michael, Patrick, & Casey in 8 years. The Hogans were a founding family of St Philomena Church in Des Moines, and were active in church and community affairs. Jean established lifelong friendships within the parish. Jean got a nursing degree in the 1970's and enjoyed nursing. For 20 years Jean and Jerry lived at Huntington Park in Des Moines. Jerry passed away in 2010, and Jean passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 2, 2014.

Jean and Jerry Hogan were good friends of my parents - Al and Eileen Segadelli. I don't think there was a more humorous couple than the Hogans. They lived life as if every day were a Saturday. Such a melancholy feeling to have them in my mind's eye now. God bless Jean and all the good she did.

Marie and Mike--So sorry to hear about Jean.My mom passed april 2007 from Alzheimers. I remember your Mom having such a great laugh.Both your Mom n Dad had such fun in life.Those early years at St Phils w involvement from our parents were crucial to our lives, even today.My Mom always had a difficult time getting in and out of your driveway. The picture that I have framed in my mind is your Mom w a perpetual smile on her face.God bless Jean and the entire Hogan family---Phil Segadelli
