Kathryn Diane Beckerman

Kathryn Diane Beckerman died August 22, 2012, after a nine-year battle with cancer; she was 54. On August 23, 2013, she was laid to rest at Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau, AK.

Kathryn was born in Dodge City, KS, to Alvin and Carolyn Beckerman (ne;e Timken). The family moved frequently with Al's Coast Guard assignments, but Kathryn spent many happy years in Juneau, AK, and Astoria, OR. She graduated from Astoria High School in 1976. Kathryn attended Central Washington University, graduating with a degree in Law and Justice in 1984.

After graduating with honors from University of Washington Law School in 1988, Kathryn joined The Defender Association of Seattle as a public defender. For twenty-three years, Kathryn defended the rights of society's poor with intelligence, compassion and unwavering dedication, earning the respect and admiration of her colleagues, prosecutors, and judges alike.

Kathryn was diagnosed with endometrial cancer in 2003. She fought the disease bravely and continued to enjoy many years of hard work, good times with friends and family, and travel. Kathryn especially loved photography, Apple gadgets, and visiting Disney theme parks. Her sensitivity, humor, and wit are sincerely missed.

Kathryn is survived by her partner of 13 years, Darcy Nebergall; brother Steve and sister-in-law Sheri Beckerman of Spokane, WA; sister Kris, brother-in-law Karl Moore, and nephew Ben of Laramie, WY; sister Sue Beckerman of Juneau, AK; sister Melisa Beckerman of Seattle, WA; and niece Jenna and nephew-in-law Ryan Davidson and grand-nephew Reece of Salem, OR.
