Lawrence (Larry) Charles Kenney|
Former President of the Washington State Labor Council, passed away peacefully on May 13 surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness.
Larry worked for 24 years at the Washington State Labor Council, the state's largest labor federation. He first joined the Council as its Research Director in 1969. He was elected to serve as Secretary-Treasurer from 1980 - 1986, at which time he was elected President, a position he held until 1993.
Larry's humor, insight and a strong commitment for economic and social justice made him a leader, mentor and a friend to many. He leaves a legacy of hope, wisdom and a desire to do what is right.
Larry will be long remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, companion and friend. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Phyllis Gutierrez Kenney, his brother Edward Heavey, his son Brian Kenney, daughter Karen Brooks; eight step-children, including Rosemary Shannah, Greg Maltos, Elizabeth Maltos, Gabriel Maltos, Barbara Pisca, Rebecca Maltos-Carl, Jonathan Maltos, Nathan Maltos; and 21 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 1, at 2:00 p.m., at the Mountaineers Club, 7700 Sand Point Way N. E., Seattle, Washington, 98115.
It is requested that donations be made in Larry's name to the Northwest Center Industries, P.O. Box 80827, Seattle, Washington 98108-2730, or the Phyllis Gutierrez Kenney Scholarship Fund at North Seattle Community College, for immigrant and low-income students, c/o AnneZacovic@SeattleColleges.edu.
