Mary Margaret (Mar) McGoldrick passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 2, 2013, just five months before her 100th birthday. Mar was born the first of six children to Arthur and Josephine Quigley in Seattle, Washington on August 31, 1913. She was preceded in death by siblings, Phoebe Gilbert, Josephine McDonald, Arthur Quigley, Edward Quigley, and Ruth Harwell.
She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Washington in 1935 and was also a member of Kappa Alpha Theta. She married Richard R. Hodge in September 1936 and moved to Tacoma where her husband practiced law until his death in 1971. She married Donald McGoldrick of Swanson-McGoldrick Inc in 1978.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard Hodge and husband Donald McGoldrick, both of Tacoma. She is survived and will be truly missed by daughter, Peggy Hodge ( Bill) of Vista CA, son, Edward 'Brick,' of Auburn, WA, step-children Patrick McGoldrick ( Aileen) of Tacoma, David McGoldrick (Jeanne) of Tacoma, Mary Carlson, of Olympia, and Nancy Peterson (David), of Olympia, grandchildren Mark Hodge of Renton, Meredith Park of Encinitas CA, Amy Shaffer of Lake Oswego, OR, 5 great-grandchildren and extended family and friends.
Mar lived in the north-end of Tacoma for 73 years, five of those years at Franke Tobey Jones, and later lived in Vista CA with her daughter and son-law, Bill Hodge, until her death. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Tacoma for 73 years.
In her early years, she was active in PEO, Kappa Alpha Theta, Thursday Study Club, Wauna Dance Club, University of Washington Alumnae Association, bridge clubs, and served on the Board of Directors at Franke Tobey Jones for nine years. She loved aquatic sports, boating, music (piano), hiking, reading, gardening, dancing, and writing her life story.
Interment will be in July at the New Tacoma Cemetery.
