Mona Belle Miller Obituary
Mona Belle Miller

Mona Belle died peacefully in her home in Bellevue, WA, surrounded by family and friends, on January 25, 2014. Born in Kansas City, MO, on September 9, 1930, to William Ralph and Mona May Williams, she lived an adventurous life, inspiring a large extended family and many friends with her wit, style, and spunk.

Mona Belle attended Southwest High School in Kansas City and Rockford College in Rockford, IL. She flew as a stewardess for TWA during the dawn of passenger air travel when that career offered adventure to a Midwestern girl. Mona Belle was married to Earl Edward Robertson, Jr., in Kansas City, and later to Wood Lyda M.D. in Seattle. She supported many charitable causes and organizations, from John Muir Elementary to the Seattle Symphony. One of her favorite volunteer roles was chauffeuring and assisting world-renowned guest artists for Seattle's major arts organizations. She also contributed enthusiasm and energy to the Seattle Children's Hospital Betsey Wilson Guild, and was an active member of the Seattle Yacht Club and the Seattle Tennis Club. In the 1970s, Mona Belle enrolled in the University of Washington to complete her education, earning a bachelor's degree with honors in Contemporary American Thought in 1973. In 1977 she became a licensed realtor, selling real estate in Bellevue and the surrounding area for several years. In the 1980s Mona Belle pursued her life-long dream of moving to Hollywood, where she worked successfully as a movie and television extra, with cameos in many popular shows. She was drawn back to the Pacific Northwest to be with family and to marry Glenn S. Miller in 1990, with whom she nurtured a large and happy blended family. Mona Belle was a world traveler, but her favorite destinations were always Palm Desert, where she and Glenn owned a home for several years, and Hawaii.

Mona Belle is preceded in death by her siblings William Ralph, Jr., Laura Jean, Warren, and Nancy; Wood Lyda; her son William Hocker Robertson; her stepson Jeffrey Miller; and her husband Glenn Miller. She is survived by a large and loving extended family, including her children and stepchildren: Sara Robertson (Stephen Phillips), Jane Lyda Mounsey (Stephen), Robert Lyda, Peter Lyda, Ann Lyda Rogers, Marcia Spees (George), Michael Miller (Jennifer), Molly Kaiserman (Jerry), Sandi Miller, and Anthony Miller. Her grandchildren include Colleen, Ian (Cheyenne), and Duncan Robertson; Charlie and Henry Phillips; Anna and Matthew Mounsey; Eliza Tainton (Mark); Cordelia Dawson (Michael); Andy, Katie and Mike Miller; Joanna and Maggie Kaiserman; and Collin Miller. She also leaves behind her great-grandson Liam Robertson; daughter-in-law Teresa Bigelow; Barbara Robertson; and Dale Hoff.

A celebration of Mona Belle's life will take place at the Seattle Yacht Club on Friday, February 7th at 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to the Safe Crossings Foundation
