Ruth Brink Smith Obituary
Ruth Brink Smith

Ruth Brink Smith passed away peacefully in southern California December 16, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. Ruth was born in San Diego May 25, 1927 to Adeline and Sigfried Brink, the fourth of seven children. She spent her early years in California and moved with her family to Seattle at the age of twelve.

She was a Golden Grad at Roosevelt High School, very involved in student life and graduated in 1945. Ruth studied at the University of Washington, was a UW cheerleader and a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority where she remained an active, proud member.

Ruth married Bill Smith in 1948 and had three children, Susan, Ross and Greg. After living in northeast Seattle for many years, Ruth moved to Mercer Island in 1968. She had a long, successful career working for King County Blue Shield and retired in 1997. Ruth was a tireless volunteer for many organizations and was an active member of Saint James Cathedral for 42 years. She loved the arts in Seattle and belonged to the Woman's University Club where she enjoyed playing mahjong and bridge. She leaves many close friends and family including four grandchildren, three brothers and two sisters.

A memorial mass will be held Friday, January 18 at Saint James Cathedral at 1:00 p.m. followed by a reception at the Woman's University Club. Donations in Ruth's name can be made to Ryther Child Center and Saint James Cathedral.
