Sally Ann Heiland McEachran Obituary
Sally Ann Heiland McEachran

1932 ~2014

Sally McEachran, a resident of Anacortes since 2003, died at the age of 81 on April 5, 2014. Sally was the mother of Karen Everett of Guemes Island, and Cheri Morrison of Bellingham. Sally was a true daughter of the Northwest. Born in Seattle in 1932 during the midst of the Depression, she was raised in the Laurelhurst neighborhood of northeast Seattle. Her father, Albert Heiland, had wildcat mining roots in Montana but went on to become the head of Rhodes Department Store at University Village, travelling the world to find goods for that store. Sally's mother, Aladayne Lane Lingwood, had roots in Lane County, Oregon, the terminus of the OregonTrail (and the family has the buttermilk pancake recipes to prove it). Her grandparents, the Lingwoods, had a flower farm and a stall at the Pike Place Market. Sally attended Roosevelt High School in Seattle and the University of Washington for a short time. It was here that she met Richard "Dak" McEachran, a racer on the UW ski team, and nephew of one of the founders of Stevens Pass, Chester Thorpe. The couple's first date was at a Warren Miller ski movie. They married in 1952 at St. Stephen's Church in Laurelhurst, when she was 19 and he was 21. They had three daughters, Kaye Allison, Cheri Ann, Karen Lynn. Kaye succumbed to a rare type of Multiple Sclerosis at the age of five. In 1967 "Dak n Sal" moved their family back into the Laurelhurst neighborhood. The couple spent almost every weekend camping and boating on their ski boat the "Let's Go!" all over the state of Washington with their daughters, or spending time at their cabin on Hood Canal. In 1990, when Dick retired from the Boeing Company, the couple sold their home in Laurelhurst and moved full time to Hood Canal, enjoying oystering, crabbing & boating for many years. In 2003 they moved to Anacortes to be closer to their daughter, Karen Everett. Dick McEachran passed away in 2007. Sally is survived by her two daughters, Karen & Cheri, three grandchildren, Ryan Everett, Ashley Morrison and Chad Morrison, and a great-grandson, Bryce Morrison.

Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., Anacortes, WA and the San Juan Islands.
