Susan Dianne Gunderson passed away Saturday, November 17th, after a courageous battle with cancer. Sue was a friendly, kind, and caring person, making friends wherever she went. She was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend and will be missed very much.
Sue was born in Seattle to Robert and Elizabeth Gunderson on January 16, 1951. Her family moved to Bellevue in 1959. She graduated from Newport High School in 1969 and was a 1974 graduate of the University of Washington.
After college, she worked for Seafirst Bank for many years, and in many capacities. After leaving Seafirst, she held the position of Executive Director for Washington Business Week, leaving there to embark on other endeavors including marketing diversity training to many companies. Her pride and joy was Rub-a-Dub-Dog, in the Greenwood neighborhood, where she was one of the original owner-operators.
Sue enjoyed many activities, she was a member of the Ski Patrol and ski instructor at Ski Acres, and loved the game of golf, both as a participant and a spectator. She was an avid Huskie, Storm, Mariner and Seahawks fan and was involved in Women + Business, GSBA and other organizations in the Seattle area. She had a great appreciation for the outdoors and enjoyed bird watching and taking photographs of the beauty that surrounded her.
After living in Arkansas for a number of years, Sue was very happy to return to the beautiful Pacific Northwest in June of 2011. She was a frequent visitor to the Luther Burbank dog park, with her beloved canines Katy and Angie.
Sue is survived by her brother Bob Gunderson (Lynn), sister Vicki (Steve) Hansman, one nephew and three nieces. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and a multitude of friends.
Sue's family is very grateful for the wonderful care she received at UW Medical Center and especially from Dr. Bernardo Goulart, Heather, Lindsey, Jamie, Karen and many others at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in her memory to Rebecca's Rainbow, American Brittany Rescue or an animal rescue group of your choice; Seattle Cancer Care Alliance; or the GSBA Scholarship Fund would be greatly appreciated.
A memorial gathering will be held at a later date.
