Obituary Condolences

Thomas Lloyd Pugh

Thomas Lloyd Pugh was born October 6, 1951, to Lloyd and Adrienne Pugh. He attended Mercer Island High School, where he won national honors in debate. Tom graduated from the University of Washington with honors in political science. Tom was an active member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. He graduated from the University of Washington School of Law in 1976 and for a time, he was an excellent trial attorney. In 1981,

Tom joined his father, Lloyd, in his manufacturer's representative business. Tom and Lloyd had an exceptionally close bond, based on mutual respect and admiration.

Tom met Wendy Simonds in 1979 and they married in 1983. Wendy travelled extensively with Tom on his many business and social trips. Wendy and Tom were the center of several social circles, including their families, life long friends, business associates and neighbors. "Pugh Parties" are always warm and inviting., whether for Fourth of July, New Years Eve, Christmas, somebody's birthday, or to watch a Husky football game.

Tom's generosity is legendary. At a restaurant, if he became aware that a young couple, unknown to him, had just decided to get married, he would anonymously pick up their dinner tab. On numerous occasions, he would host his family, friends, and business colleagues for vacations abroad, to Napa Valley, and to Harrison Hot Springs. Or he and Wendy would reserve a room at Canlis Restaurant to honor an occasion.

Tom was a founder, central leader, and active member of the Hearth, Patio and Barbecue Association. Over the past few years, he devoted about 1/3 of his work time to volunteer for HPBA. Tom also mentored numerous people in the manufacturer's representative business.

Tom died peacefully in his sleep the morning of December 15, 2012. Although he had been ill, his death came as a shock to those of us who love and know him. Tom is survived by his wife, Wendy Pugh, his brother, John Pugh, his sister-in-law and brother in law, Jackie and Jason Winter, and by an extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as friends around the world.
