Danny McCann, 64, of Shelbyville, Ky., died June 21, 2014, after a short bout with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Corene McCann, his brother Robert McCann and sister Mildred Aukerman. Danny is survived by his wife, Judy Hatter McCann; daughter Lisa (Shane) Bolin of Shelbyville; son Danny Scott (Kimberley) McCann of Bardstown; step-daughter Stacy (Greg) Taylor of Haines City, FL and step-son Jimmy (Sarah) Hatter of Fisherville; brothers Tommy (Pearl) McCann of Shelbyville, Willie (Dorothy) McCann of Frankfort, Jimmy (Sharon) McCann of Fort Isabella, TX and sister Nancy Jaus of Frankfort; his 13 beautiful grandchildren, Brianna, Ben, and Jacob Hood; Christopher Bolin; Gavin, Carson, and Conner Hicks; Austin, Denver, and Savannah Taylor; and Max, Samuel, and Gabriel Hatter.
Danny loved and served his God, family, and country. Danny was a member of Shelby Christian Church and was an active volunteer at the Serenity Center where he served alongside his good friend Bobby Franklin. Danny was a Vietnam veteran and retired from the United States Army with 34 years of service. He was a member and present Post Commander of the Shelbyville VFW Post 1179. Danny was awarded with the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Superior Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal (2 bronze stars). Danny enjoyed having morning coffee with his friends and was an avid collector of military memorabilia. Danny was a man of few words and chose to communicate his love through actions of service. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
The funeral will be Wednesday, June 25 at Shannon Funeral Home at 10 a.m. with Jason Haggard and Jim Morris officiating. A military service will follow at the Pleasureville Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Shelbyville VFW Post 1179, P.O. Box 25, Shelbyville, KY 40065.
