Donald H. Haneman, age 84, of Sheboygan Falls, died unexpectedly Sunday morning, February 23, 2014.
He was born June 14, 1929 in Sheboygan to Henry and Dorothy (Graf) Haneman. He was a graduate of Sheboygan Central High School, Class of 1948. From 1948 to 1952 Donald served his country in the US Navy beginning in Great Lakes, IL and then Beyonne, NJ, Charlston, SC, and aboard the USS Verdin and the USS Navsta in Key West, FL. He received a Certificate of Honor while serving during the Korean Conflict.
Following his honorable discharge he returned to Sheboygan where he began his employment with Wis. Power & Light Co, retiring in 1987 as a Control Room Operator.
He was previously married to Nancy Trewin.
Donald was a member of the Sheboygan Elk's Lodge#299 and enjoyed cooking, boating, camping, snowmobiling, and working crossword puzzles. In his younger years he enjoyed riding his horse, Raider. He was also a WW II history buff, watching endless movies on the subject. However, one of his greatest loves was spending great times with his granddaughters. He was very proud that they called him Papa.
He is survived by his daughter, Kelly (Tom) Halbach of Sheboygan Falls; his granddaughters, Sabrina (special friend, Ben Kiefer) Schelk of Vernal, UT, Chelsea (special friend, Mitchell Lenz) Schelk of Sheboygan Falls and Shawna Halbach of Sheboygan Falls; and one brother, William (Beatrice) Haneman of Peoria, AZ; and other relatives and friends.
Honoring Don's wishes, private family services will be held.
