Chandler, James L.

James L. Chandler , age 72 years of Cedar Grove, WI, passed away on May 1, 2014. He was born on January 10, 1942, to Robert and Sylvia (nee Sanderson) Chandler in Ypsilanti, MI and was raised in Ann Arbor, MI. Jim attended Ann Arbor High School and later Michigan State University, where he earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Michigan State University. Jim's journey with Scouting began in 1951, when he joined Cub Scout Pack #122 at Perry School in Ann Arbor, MI. In 1953, Jim joined Boy Scout Troop #2 at the Bethlehem Church, where earned the coveted Eagle Scout Award. After graduate school and working for the BSA in summer camp, Jim accepted a position as Dean of Students at the University of Colorado, Boulder, CO. In his spare time, he served as a Scoutmaster. Deciding he might have a greater impact providing positive influence during a young person's earlier development. So, in February 1968, he gave up his Scout Troop, his volunteer and community work and his position with the university; and set to start a new career with the Boy Scout of America. In over 40 years, Jim gave exceptional service in Chicago's north shore, Chicago, Madison, WI, and the National Council, living a life of Scouting service and community service. His service was so profound that he was honored with the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award.Jim was a member of the Boy Scouts of America Professional Staff. A career that spanned for 52 years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Jim is survived by his sister, Marilyn Grasso, brother, Rev. Thomas R. Chandler and half sister, Cheryl Johnson. He is further survived by his nieces, Linda Grasso, Terri Hastings, Pamela Grasso, Deborah Grasso, Allison Graham; grandnephew, Jason Hastings, other relatives and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents.

A Funeral Service will be held at noon on Friday, May 9, 2014, at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel of West Bend with Rev. James Snodgrass presiding. Interment of ashes will be at Tecumseh Cemetery in MI. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday, May 9 from 10 a.m. until time of service at noon.
