Preston Mathieu

Preston Mathieu, age 94 of 916 Huron Ave., Sheboygan passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, December 29, 2013 at St. Nicholas Hospital. Preston was born October 16, 1919 in New Orleans, LA to the late Preston and Elmira (George) Mathieu. Preston served his country in the US Army serving in WWII and Korea. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion. Preston married the former Jessie Burns on January 26, 1946 in Morganfield, KY at Camp Breckenridge; she preceded him in death on January 6, 2003. Preston owned and operated his barber shop in Chicago for many years, cutting hair until he was 80 years old when he moved to Sheboygan to be close to his daughter. He enjoyed bowling at Maple Lanes and golfing until he was 90.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law Karel (Rich) Gulig of Kohler; grandchildren Kenneth (Jacquie) Ilkenhans of Pewaukee, Amy (Ben) Strong of Covington, GA, Lesley (Luis) Hernandez of Cleveland, WI; great- grandchildren Neil, Haley, Shelby, Cameron, Autumn, Rachel, Alec, AJ, Lily, Kaia, Winston, Jack and Tyler. Preston was a gentle man and will be sadly missed by his special friend Bonnie.

Preston was preceded in death by his parents, wife, four brothers Harold, Joseph, Robert and Charles; two grandchildren Steven Ilkenhans and Christopher Nelson.

Family and friends may call at Holy Name of Jesus Parish, 818 Huron Ave, Sheboygan on Thursday January 2, 2013 from 9:30 - 11:00. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 A.M. Thursday at the church with Fr. Matthew J. Widder officiating and Deacon Mike Burch assisting. Entombment to follow in the Holy Cross Mausoleum.
