Simpson, Dr. Reed Morgan

Dr. Reed Morgan Simpson, former Sheboygan doctor and county coroner who moved to East Lansing, Michigan in 2001, died there July 5, at the age of 100. He was born November 22, 1913, in Pittsburgh, PA, only son of Lawrence and Leota Simpson. Isabel (nee Grasser), Sheboygan native and his beloved wife for over 66 years, predeceased him in 2005. Sisters, Mildred (Glenn) Skutley and Virginia Simpson, also predeceased him. He is survived by his three children, Martha (Dr. John) Brick of East Lansing; Dr. Robert (Kayte) Simpson of Pony, Montana; and Michael (Jane) Simpson of Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Kerry Brick Zsigo, Bridget (Frederic) Balesky, Jeffrey (Gina) Brick, Ira (Carrie) Simpson, Laura (James Cirincione) Simpson, Elizabeth (Troy) Frisch, and Jonathan (Rachel) Simpson; and 14 great-grandchildren.

After three years at Colorado College in Colorado Springs, he was accepted at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis in 1934. Following an internship and residency at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, he proudly served in the U. S. Army Medical Corps during World War II. He opened an office in Sheboygan after the war, where he practiced until 1983. Governor Kohler appointed him county coroner in 1953. In 1959, he retired as a Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves. A memorial gathering of family is planned for later this summer.
