Violet E. Gutoski

Violet E. Gutoski, age 96, of Sheboygan died Friday, January 31, 2014, at Pine Haven Covenant Home. Violet was born October 18, 1917, in Chase, Wisconsin, to Herbert and Edith Drews. She was born at home on the family farm. Violet graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from Oshkosh University and went on to teach Kindergarten for 25 years, with the last 19 in Sheboygan Falls. Violet married Henry "Hank" Gutoski on October 12, 1940. Hank preceded her in death in March 1972.

Violet was a long standing member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Sheboygan. Violet was past President of Wesley United Methodist Women and assisted in many ways at the church. Violet was the former Program Chairman of AARP from 1985-1991. She taught a group art class at Madison School and was affectionately known as the "Picture Lady". Violet assisted with Bingo at Meadowview Nursing Home and also escorted Senior Center tours. Violet was a member of VFW #9156 Auxiliary since 1967. She loved to travel, play cards, and dance - she was still country line dancing at the age of 81.

Violet is survived by her daughter Nancy (Richard) Hiers of Sheboygan, and her son James (Rose) Gutoski of Holmen; grandchildren Kevin Hiers of DeWitt, MI, Angela (Tom) DeGenaro of Lakeville, MN, and Katherine Gutoski of Menasha. She is further survived by five great grandchildren, Tony, Dominic (DJ) and Ethan Hiers of DeWitt, and Grace and Charlie DeGenaro of Lakeville; brother-in-law Clarence Gutoski and sister-in-law Hilda Gutoski of Sheboygan.

In addition to her husband, Violet was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Merdon "Bud" (Fern) Drews and Austin Drews (age 2) of Oconto Falls, brother-in-laws Frank (Dottie) and Richard, and sisters-in-law Laura (Ervin) Schmidt and June Gutoski all of Sheboygan.

Private family services will be held in the Spring, with inurnment at Wildwood Cemetery, Sheboygan. Reinbold-Novak Funeral Home, Sheboygan, is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be expressed at
