Walter "Wally" Neumeister Obituary
Walter "Wally" Neumeister

Walter A. Neumeister, 91, of Sheboygan, fell asleep in the arms of the Lord on April 23, 2014 at Beach Health Care.

"Wally", son of Arthur and Anna Reimer Neumeister, was born in Spokane, Washington on May 27, 1922. He graduated from Sheboygan Central High School in 1940. He also attended the University of Wisconsin Extension.

On January 12, 1946, Wally married Virginia Beiersdorf at Immanuel Lutheran Church. On January 12, 2014, they celebrated 68 years together.

He always took pride in his service to his country having served in the U.S. Army in France and Germany, assigned to the 7th Army, 568 Railroad Co. during World War II. In 2002, along with other veterans, he was awarded a certificate of recognition from the French government for helping to liberate France.

Over the years, Wally worked in the Freight Traffic Office of the Milwaukee Railroad, followed by fifteen years as a cost accountant at Ebenreiter Woodworking Co. He was also the Traffic Manager at Garton Toy Co. In 1984, he retired from Poly Vinyl Co. as Manager of the Accounting Office. Later, he accepted a post retirement position with H.C. Denison Co.

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church counted him among their faithful members. Over the years, Wally held various offices on the Church Council and sang in the choir. He was an active member and first president of the Sheboygan Area Traffic Club as well as a member of several railroad Historical Societies. He was passionate about railroading and took great pride in his model railroad. He also enjoyed photography, freelance writing and traveling. If you asked him about his "best trip ever", he'd be quick to tell you about his railroad journey to Churchill (Hudson Bay), Manitoba to see polar bears in the wild.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia, their son, James (Martha) of Cincinnati, Ohio, their three grandchildren; Charles Neumeister (Marjorie), Megan Neumeister (Christopher Brueningsen) and Anne DiMauro (Steven) and three great grandsons. He is also survived by his brother, Alvin Neumeister of Hanover, IL, many nieces and nephews and his sister-in-law, Rosalind Schuttey.

Services are scheduled for Tuesday, April 29 at 12:00 PM at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1614 South 23rd Street, Pastor Christian Gugel, officiating. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday morning from 10:30 A.M. -11:45 A.M. and the funeral will be at 12 Noon. Entombment to follow in the Garden Terrace Mausoleum in Lutheran Cemetery with military honors being accorded by VFW Post #9156.
