Paese, William P. (1932-2014)

William Paul Paese, of Plymouth, WI, passed peacefully on Thursday, April 3, 2014, at Rocky Knoll Care Center, where he had been a patient for two and a half years.

Born in Middletown, OH, on Feb. 14, 1932, Bill was the son of Louis and Catherine (Lorditch) Paese. Louis (Luigi) was an Italian immigrant and Catherine an Ohio native. Bill was raised in Columbus, OH, where he graduated from Columbus North High School. He enrolled at Ohio State University and, after three years there, left Columbus and served in the U.S. Army for two years before returning to complete his college degree.

Bill then moved to Chicago, where he met his beloved wife, Jean (Slabe), of 53 years. Bill and Jean were married on Sept. 3, 1960, and lived briefly in Chicago, with Bill working at Continental Can, before moving to Plymouth in 1961. In Plymouth Bill joined Plymouth Oil Co., a local business founded and owned by his father-in-law, Vincent Slabe. He spent his entire working career at Plymouth Oil.

Bill was a member of St. John the Baptist parish, and served on the parish council, finance committee, and school board. He was an active member of American Legion Post 243, and a member of Kiwanis, serving as its president.

Bill loved his family and friends, his A-frame with the "Highlanders" in northern WI, deer hunting, golf, the Packers and traveling with Jean. He also loved singing barbershop with family, having sung in a Plymouth barbershop chorus and quartet. Of all the things in his life, his five boys were his (and are Jean's) greatest pride and joy.

Bill suffered a debilitating stroke in 1987 and faced his condition with dignity, courage, and grace.

Bill is survived by his wife Jean, sons Paul (Kathleen) sons Ben and Daniel; Dan (Ann) children Sarah and William; Andy (Cathy) children Tony, Robby, Maggie, and Sally; Tom (Mari) children Joseph, David, Maribeth, and Audrey; Matt (Ellen) children Rachel and Louis. Also siblings Joe (Carolyn) Paese, Charles (Mary Sue) Paese, Jack Paese, and Jeannette (Gordon) Olson.

Also survived by many sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Mary Louise and Carolyn, and sister-in-law Carol.

Memorial mass will be held on Tuesday afternoon (April 8) at 1:00 P.M. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth. Father Dan Volkert will officiate. Cremation has taken place. Friends may call at the CHURCH on Tuesday morning from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Bill's name.

The Ladewig-Zinkgraf American Legion Post #243 will conduct military rites at church following the services.
