Albert Sidney Austin

Master Sergeant (Retired) Albert Sidney Austin was born on August 10, 1922 and passed away on October 31, 2013.

A graveside service to include a US Army Honor Guard will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, November 8, 2013 at Rose-Neath Cemetery located at 5158 Swan Lake Road, Bossier City, LA.

He was the youngest child of Louis and Leona Austin and grew up in Baton Rouge, LA. He attended Baton Rouge High School, joined the Army in January of 1941 and graduated from Airborne School. He ultimately served 23 years and was a decorated veteran of WWII and the Korean War; he was awarded the Bronze Star with V Device for Valor, and the Combat Medic Badge, as well as numerous other medals and awards.

Al married Peggy DeHart in Beaumont, Texas on January 4, 1943. They spent 64 wonderful years together until her death on February 6, 2007.

He is survived by their three sons, Ronnie Austin, Jim Austin, David Austin; grandchildren, Ashley Slaughter, Shannon Dean, John Austin, Chris Austin, Allison Austin, Reed Austin and Eric Austin and great grandchildren, Caleb Kimble, Alesce Kimble, Phoebe Dean, Claire Dean and Josie Dean.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Al's name to the Wounded Warriors Foundation. Further information on this organization can be found at www.woundedwarrior.org.
