Shreveport, LA - Mrs. Rickenbacker died peacefully in her sleep after a lengthy illness, at the age of 95, on Saturday, December 21, 2013. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 26, 2013, at St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral with The Very Reverend Alston B. Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. A reception at 38 Tealwood will follow the services.

Camille Helen Huckins was born in Denver, CO on July 30, 1918 and reared in San Francisco at the Sir Francis Drake Hotel, which was owned and operated by her father until the property was sold to Conrad Hilton. She was a graduate of Sara Dix Hamlins School for Girls and attended Burke's School, both in San Francisco. She then attended Stanford University and Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge.

Miss Huckins was married on October 10, 1940, to Staunton Brevard Sample (who died on November 10, 1974). She was then married on July 2, 1983, to Barney L. Rickenbacker (who died on August 13, 2005).

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon Wood Huckins and Camille Vance Huckins; her brother, John Vance Huckins; her daughter, Camille Chappell Sample; her son, Guy Brevard Sample, and her grandson, Philip Key Sample. She is survived by her son, Wilton Wade Sample and his wife, Betsy; her grandchildren, John Brevard Sample, Staunton Brevard Sample II, Wilton Wade Sample III, Camille Holly Sample and Abigail Mary Weinberger; and her great-granddaughter, Victoria Alexandra Key Sample.

She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral, Junior League of Shreveport and Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She was the first Red Cross-Nurse's Aide Volunteer during WWII. She was a Life Member of the Shreveport Opera Assoc. and Shreveport Symphony. She was a past Chairman and charter member of The Demoiselle Club and The Cotillion Club. She was also a member of Daughters of the Barons of Runnymede, National Society of Magna Charta Dames, The Sovereign Colonial Society Americans of Royal Descent, The Huguenot Society of South Carolina, Colonial Order of the Crown, The Knights Hospitaller of St. John of Jerusalem, The Society of the Descendants of the Knights of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, and The General Society of Mayflower Descendants.

Pallbearers will be Dr. David J. Werner, Dr. Barron J. O'Neal, Dr. Sanders F. Hearne, James G. Marston, Edwin N. Wray, Jr., Will Blanchard, Alfred Hunter Yeatts, Jr. and Wilton W. Sample.

Honorary pallbearers will be O. Delton Harrison, William M. Comegys, Jr., Chris D. Demopoulos, Jr. and Dr. J. Dudley Talbot.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank Mary Tousant, Deanna Williams, Rolanda Johnson, and the late Dominique Williams, for their devoted care. Finally we would also like to pay special tribute to Dedra Williams, for her extraordinary efforts and loving dedication for these last thirteen years.
