Funeral services honoring the life of Bernard "Coach" Waggoner, 85, will be held Friday, February 8, 2013, at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church in Logansport, LA. Officiating the services will be Rev. Charles Hall, assisting will be Rev. Lance Cypert. Burial will follow at O.E. Price Cemetery in Logansport, LA. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday, February 7, 2013, from 5:00 until 8:00 PM.

Coach Waggoner was born on August 30, 1927, in Tullos, LA, and entered into rest on February 5, 2013, in Shreveport, LA. Coach Waggoner was a member of First Baptist Church of Logansport since 1950 where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher for over 50 years. He was currently teaching the Gideon Men's Class. He graduated high school in Urania, LA. He proudly served his country in the US Army which included serving a tour in Japan. He graduated from Northwestern State College in 1949 and later obtained a Masters degree from Stephen F. Austin. He was an all-conference player on the Northwestern Demons Gulf States Conference Championship Basketball team which went to the national NAIA semifinals. He was inducted in the Northwestern N Club Hall of Fame in 1982. He was drafted into the NBA by the Baltimore Bullets. He taught school at Logansport High School for over 30 years as a math and science teacher, assistant football coach, head basketball coach, and principal. He then went on to serve as a supervisor for DeSoto Parish Schools. After retirement he taught and coached in the Joaquin Independent School District. To many he was known as Coach Waggoner and will forever be missed and remembered by those he impacted in his lifetime.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Gladys Waggoner.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Nell Lenoir Waggoner of Logansport, LA; son, Wayne Waggoner and wife, Robin of Colleyville, TX; daughters, Theresa Champagne and husband, Roland of Bossier City, LA, and Brenda Lupo and husband, Wayne of Shreveport, LA; sister, Avis Barrett of Monroe, LA; grandchildren, Lance Champagne and wife, Lynne, Kara Melancon and husband, Bobby, Jackson Waggoner, Aaron Waggoner, Lauren Johnson and husband, Brett, and Jared Lupo; and 3 great grandchildren, Addy Champagne, Landon Champagne, and Marcie Melancon.

Honoring Mr. Waggoner as pallbearers will be David Gray, Gary Henderson, Lance Champagne, Jared Lupo, Rhonny Valentine, Brett Johnson, Billy Creech, and Dale Morvan. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons and members of the Gideons Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church of Logansport, LA.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Manish Dhawan and Lauren Scheffy at Oncology Associates and the entire staff of Dubuis Hospital for their loving care.
