Billy Joe Gourley

Shreveport, LA Billy Joe Gourley was born January 12, 1930 in Gary, IN. His parents were Barney Clay and Lela Stevens Gourley. He went to be with his Lord August 3, 2014 at his home. Bill was moved to Tennessee while still a baby. . He married Dorothy Newsome of Halls, TN in 1950. They came to Louisiana in 1966 and joined Central Christian Church shortly after.

During the Korean Conflict Bill served with the Army Signal Corps on Okinawa. He retired from Western Electric after 31 years. He was a member of the Pioneers Club and was an avid fisherman and hunter.

Always active in the life of his church, Bill has served as a Deacon and Chairman of the Property Department.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; a daughter, Dawn Gourley Mullings: and a half brother, William Gilliland. He is survived by his children, Ronald Wayne Gourley and wife Vicki, Donald L. Gourley and wife Pamela, Denise Gourley Bogdan and husband David, and Mitchell Kirk Gourley and wife Jonette; grandchildren, Shannon Blankenship and husband Daniel, Christopher Gourley, Grant Gourley and wife Kelly, Penny Wilcox and husband Aaron, Hunter Mullings and wife Alexa, Michael Bogdan and fiancée Taylour Evans, Ashley Bogdan, and Gunner M. Gourley,; great-grandchildren, Drake Blankenship, Ashton Nelson, Mason Gourley, Kyleigh Attaway, Ian Attaway, and Peyton Mullings; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; and a host of friends.

A funeral service honoring Mr. Gourley will be held Wednesday, August 6, 2014, 2:30 PM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, Shreveport, LA. Officiating will be Brother Joe Bob Alexander and Rev. Tony Nations. Interment will follow in Forest Park West Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday from 5 until 7 PM at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Gourley, Daniel Blankenship, Grant Gourley, Michael Bogdan, Gunner Gourley and Bobby Newsome, Jr.
