Charles Burnham, 90 of Springhill, LA died Monday, February 24, 2014 at his home in Springhill.
Charles was born on January 31, 1924 in Hammond, LA. He served in the United States Army as an Instructor for the B-56th CADRE Combat Engineering Battalion during World War II. He was a member of the Springhill United Methodist Church and was the owner of the Napa Auto Parts Store in Springhill. Charles was a longtime pilot who enjoyed flying, drawing, golf, and working in his yard. One of his first jobs was driving a taxi that led to a favorite past time of driving many different motor vehicles.
He was preceded in death by his parents M.C. "Doc" Burnham and Madeline (Grimes) Burnham and his sister, Sarah Rebecca Holleman.
Charles is survived by his wife Dessie Burnham of Springhill; son Russ Burnham and wife Jan of Chico, CA; daughter Brenda Stewart and husband Ron of Orange Beach, AL; grandchildren Blake Burnham, Trent Burnham, Lance Cabra, Bree Cabra, Keely Thorne; and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 28th at 10:00 AM at Lewis Chapel with Rev. Bill McLain officiating. Burial will follow at the Springhill City Cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home, Inc. of Springhill. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Smiley Nehls, James Ronald Lindsey, Ron Stewart, and grandsons, Blake, Trent, Lance, and Bill. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Clark, Mike Whitlow, Dr. Sam Holladay, Clary Anthony, and Charles' Golfing Buddies.
