HAYNESVILLE, LA - Graveside service for Farnum Sidney Hunt, 93, will be held on Wednesday, February 27, at 11:00 AM at New Ramah Cemetery in Millerton. Dr. Shelby Cowling will officiate.

Mr. Hunt passed away at LSU Medical Center in Shreveport on February 23. Mr. Hunt was born and lived most of his life in Haynesville, LA. When he was 16 he enrolled in Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, MO, where he received his high school diploma. He then attended Louisiana Tech University and graduated from Louisiana State University with a degree in Sociology.

In 1941 Mr. Hunt married his high school sweetheart, Mary Ellon Baucum, also from Haynesville. Soon after marriage he was drafted to serve in World War II. He received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star during his service and left the army as a Captain in 1945.

For the next 30 years Mr. Hunt was a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. He and Mary Ellon lovingly raised their 3 children, Sid, Sue, and Cindy in Haynesville. After retirement from the US Postal Service he spent his free time doing the two things he loved most - watching his grandchildren at sporting events and raising bird dogs. He shared his passion and love of dogs with his children and special friends, including Buzz Kemper. He also cared for his wife whom he dearly loved.

Mary Ellon, his wife of 71 years, survives Mr. Hunt along with his daughter-in-law Gaynel Neyrey Hunt of Shreveport; daughters Sue Hunt Frye, and husband David of Homer; and Cindy Hunt Murray and husband Dennis of Greenwood. Surviving grandchildren include Glen Hunt of Franklinville, NC, Chris Hunt of Monroe, Emily Hunt Horton of Shreveport, Charles Frye of West Monroe, James Frye of Dallas, TX, Stacey Murray of Shreveport, and Rachel Murray of Pittsburgh, PA; two nieces, a nephew, and numerous great-grandchildren.
