Garland Scott Whitis
SHREVEPORT, LA- Memorial services for Garland Scott "Scotty" Whitis, 69, will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel with the U.S. Marine Corps providing military honors. Officiating will be Father John Himes. Harold Jones will deliver the eulogy. Visitation with the family will be from 3:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Scotty was born on May 26, 1943 in Shreveport, LA to Garland L. and Mary Allena Whitis and passed away on April 13, 2013. A life-long resident of Shreveport, Scotty was the owner and operator of Whitis Auto Repair. He was a charter member of Shreveport H.O.G. and the Historian for the Shreveport - Bossier City chapters. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed fishing and riding his Harley.
He was preceded in death by his father, Garland L. Whitis; step-father, Ray H. Byrd; maternal grandparents, Lois and Samuel Scott; his paternal grandparents, Mattie and Scott Whitis. He is survived by his mother, Mary Allena Scott Byrd; sister, Beverly Byrd Smith and husband, Robert; brother, Gary L. Whitis and wife, Dawn; niece and godchild, Darinda Dans Rainer and husband Michael; nieces, Michelle Whitis, Christy Whitis Holmes and husband, C.D., Brittany Smith Alleman and her husband Jamie as well as other family members; his best friends, Corbitt Gill and wife, Lisa; James Lee Wilson and a host of other friends.
