SHREVEPORT, LA - John Lewis Johnson passed away August 3, 2013. Open Visitation on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Winnfield Funeral Home, 3701 Hollywood Avenue, Shreveport, LA. Graveside services on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Hallsville, Texas.

John L. Johnson, a native of Hallsville, Texas, was the first born son to the union of Reverend Rufus Johnson, Sr. and Annie Jackson Miles Johnson

on July 17, 1927.

At an early age he received a love for Christ. He later became a Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent.

John was educated in the Texas School district where he taught school for several years in Hallsville, Waskom and Wiley College. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Bishop College in Marshall Texas and his Master degree from Tuskegee Institute, Tuskegee, Alabama in areas of biology, chemistry and physics. He received other educational credits , grants and honors from universities in Texas, Louisiana and California. He held a high leadership position in the Masonic Lodge.

Later, John moved to Shreveport, Louisiana and taught in the Caddo Parish school system and Southern University in the areas of biology, chemistry, and physics. He retired in 1997.

He was a licensed real estate broker and owned his own real estate company in Shreveport, Louisiana. Several people were trained as agents under him. He attended Bakers Professional Real Estate College in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was also a Notary Republic in Louisiana.

John received many awards and honors in Isotope Technology, Radiation Biology and Nuclear Science. He was a former member of NEA, LAE and CAE.

John was united in holy matrimony to the late Katie Louise Thompson. To this union, three children were born, Joeannetla, James, and Jason. Joeannetla and Jason preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death are his parents, Reverend Rufus Johnson, Sr. and Annie Lee Johnson; sister, Alma Johnson Crayton; brothers, Melvin Adelle and Rufus Johnson Jr.

He is survived by his son, James W. Johnson; one sister, Dinah Johnson Orum; three grandsons, Jared, Jason and John Cook; sister-in-law, Phyllis Johnson and Alvin Johnson; one uncle, Luster Johnson; one aunt, Eva Johnson; and a host of relatives and friends; and a special friend and caregiver, Earnestine Sudds.
