Shreveport, LA Joseph Gianforte was born October 3, 1925 in Magnolia, MS. He went to be with his Lord February 15, 2015 in Shreveport, LA. His parents were Maria LaMartina and John Joseph Gianforte.
Mr. Gianforte enlisted in the Navy at 17. He had to have parental consent after he was turned down when he tried to enlist on his own by changing his age. He retired from Gulf State Theaters as a general manager after 45 years of service. He later owned his own theater for ten years. Afterwards he drove a school bus for Caddo Parish Schools. He was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; eight siblings and one niece. Surviving Mr. Gianforte is his devoted wife of 63 years, Merilyn Gianforte; sons, John Gianforte and wife Hazel, Fred Gianforte and wife Cheryl; and a daughter, Lynn Mills and husband Larry; five grandchildren, John Mills, Nicole Mills Bates and husband Jason, Emily Gianforte, John A. Gianforte and Elliot Gianforte; other relatives and a host of friends.
A mass celebrating the life of Mr. Gianforte will be conducted Thursday, February 20, 2014, 12:00 Noon at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Shreveport, LA. Officiating will be Rev. Pike Thomas. Interment will follow at Centuries Memorial Park Cemetery, Shreveport, LA . Visitation with the family will be at 11:00 AM before the service at the church.
Pallbearers are Jason Bates, John Mills, John Gianforte, Elliot Gianforte, Fred Gianforte and John J. Gianforte.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the St. Jude Catholic Church Building Fund.
