Judith Ann Dodd Obituary
Judith Ann Dodd

Shreveport, LA

"Life is what it is, but it will become what you make it."

This was the motto of Judith Ann Dodd, a native Montana and a beautiful and determined soul who loved her life as a mother, friend and educator. She died on May 10, 2014 and is now at peace.

Judy was born on Nov. 17, 1944 to Josephine Richardson and James Dodd. She grew up in Montana, and although Shreveport, LA was her home for the past 39 years, her heart never left the Big Sky Country. As a young child she lived in Ekalaka, MT, a town so remote you had to do a U-turn to leave. When she was ten her family moved to Red Lodge, MT and it was there that she sunk deep roots and built lifelong friendships. She absolutely loved Red Lodge, returning every summer to reconnect with classmates and friends. Her bucket list was short and to no one's surprise it included having a place in this picturesque mountain town she called home.

Judy married Jesse Dominguez in 1968. Their daughter Lainie Christine was born in 1970 while they were living in Iceland. As a military family they lived in Nevada, Iceland, North Dakota and the Philippines before finally settling in Bossier City, LA in 1975.

Always family and friend focused, she never forgot a birthday, special event or a good story. Several years ago she and her brother Jim established a tradition of their entire family spending Thanksgiving's together -- a highlight of the year.

A consummate professional in education, she received Bachelor degrees from the University of Montana and Eastern Montana College and a Master degree from Louisiana Tech. After moving to Louisiana, she taught in private schools for three years before beginning a 22 year career at Youree Drive Middle School as a teacher and counselor. She retired in 2007. A teacher to her core, Judy believed that there were life lessons to be learned every day; perseverance, personal responsibility, a positive attitude and doing your best. She embraced these attributes and modeled her personal life around these ideals.

In 1999 she was diagnosed with breast cancer and in 2012 with renal cancer. Although private with her emotions, she had a close group of supporters, including English bulldogs, which carried her through very difficult times. An unshakeable faith in God was her foundation.

Judy is survived by her daughter, Lainie Dominguez of Shreveport, LA, brother Jim Dodd (Penny), Boise, ID, former sister-in-law Lonna Gray, Red Lodge, MT, niece Sheri Dodd Schaal (Kevin), Joliet, MT, nephews Jim Dodd Jr. (Jennel Binsky), Boise, ID and Thad Dodd, (Julie) and their daughter, Hannah, Kearney, MO.

A vigil will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 522 East Flournoy-Lucas Rd, Shreveport at 6:00PM May 14 with a funeral mass at 3:00 May 15. Cremation has taken place with ashes to be interred at a later date. A reception will immediately follow both services.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be made to The American Kidney Foundation or .
