Julian Carl Jackson
Shreveport, LA - Julian Carl Jackson (Pops) died Monday, May 20, 2013, after complications from lung cancer. Visitation will be held at 11:00AM, on Friday, May 24, at Osborn Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 12:30PM in the chapel. Reverend Roger Templeton of Grace Community United Methodist Church will officiate.
Carl was born January 24, 1942, in Savannah, Georgia to Carl "Shine" Jackson and Grace Williams Jackson. After attending the University of Georgia, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served four tours in Viet Nam. He worked for many years in the paper industry and retired from Voith Paper Fabrics of Shreveport after having served as Vice President and General Manager.
In 1960, Carl married Nan Thomas Jackson. They have resided in Shreveport for the last 34 years.
Known to family and friends as, "Pops," Carl relished his roles as father to Carla and Carl, and grandfather to Tanner, Casey, Carrigan, and Jake. As mentor, friend, and coach; he shared with them his love for University of Georgia football, fishing, and golf. As an active member of G.A., Carl maintained close friendships and was an inspiration to many.
Carl is preceded in death by his parents and by his daughter, Carla Jackson Boose.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Nan Thomas Jackson; his son Julian Carl Jackson, Jr. and wife Chris; his grandchildren, Carrigan and Jake Jackson, and Tanner and Casey Boose. He is also survived by his sisters, Gwen Leeder and husband Richard, and Gail Huggins.
