Katherine passed away on March 9, 2014. Her adventurous spirit and love of travel animated her life. Whether in Shreveport or on a trip to Europe, she was always curious about the world, people and history. Katherine will be remembered as an avid traveler, engaged community leader, and enthusiastic photographer.
Born in Shreveport on December 26, 1926, Katherine was a graduate of C.E. Byrd High School. She was also a graduate of Centenary College of Shreveport and received her Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. Katherine returned to work at Centenary College and was named Dean of Women. At the time she was the youngest Dean of Women in the United States. She later served on the Board of Trustees at Centenary College.
Katherine targeted her energy to many projects including Business Administrator at First Baptist Church Shreveport, Past President of the Junior League and Project Chairman when C-BARC was formed, United Way Women's Division Head, Past President of the YWCA, Board Member Pelican Council, and Board Member Family and Children's Services.
Please join in a Celebration of her life at Centenary College Brown Chapel on 1:00 p.m. Tuesday March 11, 2014. Officiating will be Dr. Donald A. Webb, former President of Centenary College, and Dr. Jeff Raines, pastor of First Baptist Church of Shreveport. In lieu of flowers please make a contribution to Centenary College.
