Kenneth John Lillich

Shreveport, LA - Kenneth John Lillich was born on a farm near Carleston, Nebraska, on May 18, 1927. He passed away in Harahan, Louisiana on April 1, 2014. He was baptized on May 26, 1927. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on April 6, 1941. On May 23, 1945, he enlisted into active duty service in the U.S. Navy. After basic training, he served as a World War II veteran in San Diego, Guam, and the Philippines. He was a member of the "Seabees" unit, which derives from the letters CB, or Construction Battalion. He was awarded the Victory Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy on August 19, 1946.

He married Lorna Louise Christiansen on December 8, 1946. She gave birth to their first child, Julie Kay Lillich, on July 20, 1947. Julie Kay Lillich died of a heart ailment on January 13, 1948 while only an infant. Three more children followed: Susan, Randy, and James.

Kenneth Lillich worked as an electrical lineman for several power companies in Kansas and Nebraska in the 1950's, and then began working for Western Electric in Omaha, Nebraska. In 1966 he was transferred to the new Shreveport Western Electric telephone manufacturing plant. He worked there until his retirement in 1985. He and his wife Lorna were very active in Laborers for Christ in the late 1980's and through the 1990's. He enjoyed fishing, college sports, and RV traveling with his wife.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Otto Christian Lillich, and Ella Heinrichs Lillich. He is preceded by his wife, Lorna, who died in 2006, and their infant daughter Julie Kay, who died in 1948. He is also preceded by his three older brothers: Melvin, Everett, and Earl, who all served in the military.

He is survived by his younger sister Ines Buntemeyer who resides in Nebraska. He is also survived by his children: Susan Stanley and husband Steve of Pickerington, Ohio, Dr. Randall Lillich and wife Maureen of Harahan, Louisiana, and Dr. James Lillich and wife Sherrie of Shreveport, Louisiana. He has seven grandchildren: Lisa Cline, Rachel Dixon, Paul Lillich, Karen Berken, Adam Lillich, Micah Lillich, and Jenna Lillich. He also has four great grandchildren: Brandon Hammer, McKenzie Cline, Mason Cline, and Benjamin Lillich.

Visitation will be held at Centuries Funeral Home on Sunday, April 6, 2014 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm. Funeral service will be held on Monday, April 7, 2014 at 10:00am and Centuries Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Centuries Memorial Park.
