Shreveport, Louisiana - Leroy Shaw Cunningham, 90 years old, died peacefully on Sunday, January 20, 2013, in the presence of his family. His wife, Millicent "Mimi" Marshall Cunningham was with him every step of the way in his life, and the end of his life was no exception. Mimi comforted Lee on these last days of their marriage of 66 years. Mimi and Lee had a life full of love, family, friends and great times.
A memorial service, led by the Reverend Alston Johnson, will be held at St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral at 10:00am on Wednesday, January 23rd. A visitation will be held prior to the service at 9:00am in the parlor at St. Mark's.
Lee was born in Wheeling, West Virginia on June 9, 1922. He attended West Virginia University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Columbia University Midshipman School. Lee served in the United States Navy. He held management roles in AMF/Beaird Company from 1954 until 1962, when he went to work for AMF/Ben Hogan Company as Director of Manufacturing. In 1964 he joined Beaird-Poulan, Inc. where he worked until his retirement.
Lee was a loving husband, proud father and proudest grandfather. He spent much of his leisure time as an avid golfer at East Ridge Country Club. His later years were spent fishing on Lake Bistineau. His most recent years were spent on his son's ranch near Fredericksburg, Texas, where he lived with Mimi.
Lee is preceded in death by his parents Mary and Elza Cunningam, as well as his sister, Alma Cunningham and sister-in-law, Dorothy Cunningham.
In addition to having his loving wife by his side, Lee is survived by his brother, Millford Elsworth Cunningham, his son Marshall Wade Cunnigham, M.D. and wife Mary, his daughter Kim M. Cunningham and partner Patricia A. Romano, granddaughter Michelle Cunningham Roberts and husband David, and great-grandchildren Mary Marshall and Caroline, granddaughter Elizabeth Ann Cunningham, granddaughter Lauren Patricia Pou, granddaughter Natalie Cunningham Roberts and husband Allen, grandson Jason David Pou, and grandson Marshall Wade Cunningham, II.
