Louis Edward Greenwell
Mr. Greenwell passed away Saturday, October 26, 2013 at the VA Medical center. He was a native of Hollywood, Maryland having attended schools there. He resided in the Shreveport area for 22years. He was a catholic all of his life and a member of Saint John's Berchman. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a Eucharist minister volunteer of Schumpert Medical Center. Mr. Greenwell was a veteran of the Korean War having served from 1950 to 1952 in the Army 7th Division 17th Infantry Buffalo regiment. He was awarded the Korean and Japanese occupation Medals and Ribbons, Combat Infantry Badge, and Good Conduct medal among other awards.
After having served in the war, Mr. Greenwell went to work for International Harvester in the truck division. He then went to work for Maritime Administration Credit Union as an assistant treasurer/manager.
Mr. Greenwell was preceded in death by his two brothers, George Sterling, Joseph B. Greenwell of Hampton, VA, and one sister, Catherine Abel of Leonardtown, MD. He is survived by one sister Mary Ann Updyke & husband Wilson of Benton, LA; nephews, Robert M. Bassford & wife Peggy of Shreveport, LA, Jimmy Bassford of Memphis, TN, & Greg Updyke & wife TJ of Shreveport, LA; a host of nieces and nephews and grandnieces and nephews in the Maryland area and special friends Billy & Marie Bobbitt & Tom & Jo Maloney, all of Shreveport.
Services for Mr. Louis Edward Greenwell, who recently passed at 85 years, 3 months, and 8 days of age, will be held at Saint John's Berchman on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at 10:00am. Visitation will take place at Forest Park Funeral Home in the Magnolia Estate Room on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 from 6:00pm - 7:00pm. Interment will commence directly after the service at Forest Park West Cemetery. Officiating will be Father McClellen.
