Olive Smidge Obituary
Olive "Smidge" Lewis

Smidge Lewis lived in Bossier City and Shreveport for almost 91 years and died peacefully on Tuesday, June 3 at The Oaks of Louisiana in Shreveport. She was born in 1923 in Lake Charles, LA to Oliver Beasley Quin of Shreveport and Rose Elva Yates of Bellevue, LA.

Smidge was a beauty who modeled for Mr. Lynn's Cover Girls. Smidge loved to dance and found great joy with her husband of 45 years, Charles B "Charlie" Lewis. They waltzed (as well as jitter-bugged and two-stepped) across Texas to the live tunes of Hank Thompson and other Texas music greats. They were show-stoppers. The dancing stopped when Charlie died in 2012, but they are dancing again today in heaven. Smidge and Charlie were longtime members of the Elks Club and Amigas Dance Club. She was one of the founding owners of Holiday Lanes in Bossier City, LA built by her first husband and father of her five children, Don S Coleman of Bossier City, LA.

Smidge is preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Joe Clawson of Florida, Joy Hiers of Shreveport and "Bootch" Quin of Fayetteville, AR. She is survived by her five children and spouses: Donald S and Judi Coleman of Bossier City, LA, Michael Eugene Coleman of Galway, Ireland, John and Larraine Coleman of Shreveport, LA, Melanie Rose Coleman of Shreveport, LA and Kirk and Melody Coleman of Scottsville, TX; three step-children and spouses: Charles E and Suzanne Lewis, Laurie and Ben Rhodes, and Johnny and Gina Sedwick, all of Canyon Lake, TX. Seven grandchildren: Donna Ann Shifflet, Angela Novak, Shon David Coleman, John David Coleman, Jason Coleman, Brad Coleman and Katy Rose Warmke and many great-grands, even a few great-great grands.

The family acknowledges the great care provided by the staff of The Oaks of Louisiana, especially Sharon, Jonnella and Little Bit, who sat up many nights with her to make sure she didn't dance out of the room and Lucy with WK Hospice who helps people die in peace, dignity and love.

Visitation is Saturday, June 7, 5-8pm at Hill Crest in Haughton. Memorial services will be performed by Reverend Andy Harris at Hill Crest on Sunday, June 8 at 2pm with a graveside service to follow. "Whoop-ti-do margaritas" will be served at graveside.

In memoriam, please send flowers or tell a funny story about Smidge at the graveside this Sunday and make a toast. Another great idea is to support Willis Knighton Hospice of Louisiana, 616 E Flournoy Lucas Rd, Shreveport, LA 71115.
