Robert B. Whaley Sr.

A memorial service for Robert B. Whaley, Sr., 79, of Marshall, will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 3, 2013 in the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home. Mr. Whaley passed away July 29, 2013 in Marshall, TX.

Robert Benjamin "Pop" Whaley, Sr. was born September 7, 1933 in Clarksburg, West Virginia to Oliver and Minnie Nutter Whaley. Robert married Dorothy Jean Harold on July 20, 1953. He was employed by General Motors for 53 years without a single sick day. Bob was a dedicated family man, provider and hard worker. He loved to bowl, play horseshoes, country and bluegrass music. He had performed on the radio in his youth with his sisters.

Bob is survived by his wife, Dorothy Whaley of Marshall, TX; sons, Robert Whaley, Jr., of Waskom, TX, Michael Whaley and wife Darla of Baltimore, MD, Eric Whaley of Marshall, TX, Andrew Whaley and wife Jackie of Shreveport, LA/Dallas, TX, Chris Thompson of Waskom, TX; daughters, Sherry Adams and husband Michael of Baltimore, MD, Hilda Whaley of Shreveport, LA, Abby Whaley of Fort Wayne, IN; grandsons, Robert Crow, Jr. of Marshall, TX, Matthew Adams of Waskom, TX, Michael Whaley, Jr., of Baltimore, MD, Justin Wright of New Orleans, LA, Maurice Whaley of Waskom, TX, Eric James Whaley of Rising Sun, MD, Nathaniel Adams of Baltimore, MD, Andrew Whaley II and Benjamin Whaley, both of Shreveport, LA; granddaughters, Catrina Crow of Marshall, TX, Tiffany Anderson of Baltimore, MD, Karen Ann Whaley of Rising Sun, MD, Laken Thompson, Sarah Whaley and Victoria Whaley, all of Shreveport, LA; 17 great grandchildren; brother, Thomas Whaley of Clarksburg, WV; and sisters, Loretta Jacobs and Shirley Johnson, both of Clarksburg, WV.

Bob was preceded in death by his mother and father; daughter, Letty Whaley Crow; sisters, Laura Lee Birdman, Violet Posey, Lucille Singleton, Patricia Whaley; brothers, Michael Leroy Whaley, Wade Reed, Earnest Whaley, "Junior" Whaley and Teddy Whaley.
