SHREVEPORT, LA - Shirley "Chuck" L. Hughes, 82, passed away at home July 9, 2013. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday July 12, 2013 at Rose-Neath Southside Funeral Home and funeral services held at the funeral home on Saturday July 13, 2013 at noon. The interment will be held at Forest Park West Cemetery immediately after the funeral. Officiating the services will be Rev. Paul Navarre assisted by Dr. Chuck McInturf of Woodridge Baptist Church.

Chuck began his journey on June 28, 1931 in Winnfield, LA. He graduated from Byrd High School in 1949. He served 4 years in the U.S Navy. When he returned from the service he began electrical training with IBEW Local 194 where he was a member for over 60 years. He also retired from the Shreveport Electrical Inspection Department in 1994.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. One of his favorite past times was working in his garden, growing vegetables for his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earnest J. Hughes and Ruthie Shelton Hughes, one brother, Howard "Bud" Hughes and four sisters, Ernestine Hinton, Mary Nell Bird, Oma Lee Thornhill - Smith, and Sue Caldwell. He is survived by his wife of 57 ½ years, Delora Hughes; daughter, Vicki Hughes; son, Rickee Hughes and wife, Erin; two grandchildren, Angie Rivera and husband, Steven, Casey Hughes and wife, Brittany; three great-grandchildren, Ralynd Nunley, Korbyn Rivera and Caden Hughes; Mitzi Hughes, mother of his grandchildren; one brother, Robert "Bob" Hughes; three sisters, Helen Jackson, Ann Hines, Betty Lou Richardson and husband, Ralph. He also had numerous nieces and nephews; three sisters-in-law, Beth Walker, Jean Jones, Nita Anderson; two brothers-in-law, Bruce "Andy" Anderson and David Loe.

Serving as pallbearers will be Billy Powell, Ray Odem, Davy Holland, Bill Candler, R.L. McCrary, Murray "Leroy" Avant, John Gardner, and Madison Box. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Disciples Sunday School Class at Woodridge Baptist Church and his nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Christus Hospice Team; especially Dr. Robert J. Massengill, Chris King, RN, Veda Cawthorn, LMSW, Valerie (A+) his CNA, and Judi Snell, LPN for their companionate and loving care during Chuck's time of need.
