Dr. Tommy Duke Williams
SHREVEPORT, LA - Dr. Tommy Duke Williams, 79, passed away on Thursday evening, April 17, 2014, after a lengthy illness. Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Monday April 21, at Rose Neath's Southside Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at First Baptist Church of Keithville, LA. Officiating will be Reverend Buddy Hampton, of Belcher Baptist and Reverend Mike Stowell of First Baptist Keithville. Burial will follow in the First Baptist Church Cemetery, Keithville, LA.
Dr. Williams was a native of Keithville, LA and a resident of Shreveport for 56 years. He was a member of Belcher Baptist Church, Belcher, LA. Dr. Williams was a graduate of Louisiana State University and Texas A&M University Veterinary School, class of 1956. Dr. Williams founded the Agurs Animal Clinic in 1958 and later, the North Shreveport Animal Hospital, where he continued to practice until May of 2013. He served as a member of the State Liaison Committee for continuing veterinary medicine education for LSU from 1972 - 1982. He also served as president of the Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association and on the Louisiana State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners. Dr. Williams was a lifelong Aggie and contributing member of the Texas A&M Century Club.
Dr. Tommy Williams was presented with the Trinity Heights Service Award, served on the Board of Education, and as President of the Athletic Club. He enjoyed being with family, his career, and fishing.
Dr. Williams was preceded in death by his parents Vardaman and Lenora Williams and older brothers Vardaman, Jr. and Cecil Williams. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara Jean Williams; two sons, Tommy Williams, Jr. and wife Susan of Tomball, TX, Kyle Williams and wife Debbie of Houston, TX; daughter, Suzanne McDonald and husband Randy and adopted son, Billy Alcorn; grandchildren Kylie Towns, Chaseton Williams, Dustin Reneau, Kelsey Bourg, Jordan Williams, Brianne McDonald and eleven great-grandchildren. Dr. Williams is also survived by sisters Rita Walton, Shirley Cook, Doris Copeland and Joyce Brown.
Pallbearers will be Don Williams, Dale Walton, Trent Fuller, Buddy Cook, Byron Copeland and Robert Cole. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Ned Wynn and Ron Bruce.
