Verre Elizabeth Simpson Picard
SHREVEPORT, LA - Verre Elizabeth Simpson Picard, passed away on August 9, 2013. She was born in Shreveport on March 12, 1921 to Verre and Tom Simpson. She attended St. Vincent's Academy and graduated from C.E. Byrd High School. She graduated from H. Sophie Newcomb Memorial College in New Orleans in 1940 and then did additional pre-medical training at Centenary College in Shreveport. She graduated from Tulane School of Medicine in 1944.
Verre enjoyed playing bridge with her friends, watching Jeopardy, and attending Wagnerian operas. She was an avid reader, and was particularly interested in the British monarchy and all things Egypt. She was a member of St. John Berchmans Cathedral in Shreveport.
She was pre-deceased by her husband of over 40 years, Robert Shelly, and a daughter, Caroline Michelle. She is survived by her daughter, Shelly Baumann and husband Herbert; her son, Tom Picard and wife, Mamiko; and six grandchildren, William Baumann, Charles Baumann, Addison Picard, Naomi Picard, Kenji Picard, and Samuel Picard.
Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Forest Park St. Vincent.
