William Harold Gates

William Harold Gates, age 70, died in Austin, Texas, on Saturday, November 30th, 2013. He was born November 15, 1943, in Shreveport, Louisiana to Aubrey Thomas Gates and Eunice Mae Webb Gates of Coushatta, Louisiana. He graduated high school from New Mexico Military Academy and attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and received his B.S. and M.B.A. from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana.

Bill lived from 1974 to 1987 in Houston, Texas, where he founded Olympia Petroleum, a petroleum marketing and transport company. He retired in 1987 to Shreveport. In 2006 Bill moved to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, where he spent the remaining years of his life.

He was predeceased in death by his son Justin Sherwood Gates, who died in 1981. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Greene Gates, daughter Elizabeth Webb Gates, son David Ewing Gates and wife Claudia Lorena Brandán, and granddaughter Hannah Elizabeth Gates, all of Austin.

A memorial will be held in Austin, Texas at Remembrance Gardens. His ashes will be spread near the terminus of the Baja peninsula in the Sea of Cortez near Cabo San Lucas.
