ELKHART - Allen R. Troyer, 64, passed away unexpectedly at his home Wednesday evening. He was born July 19, 1949, in Elkhart, to Alfred and Anna Mae (Stutzman) Troyer. On Dec. 20, 1980, he married Joan Estrup in Elkhart. She survives along with two children, Jessica (Bob) Kogelschatz, Bristol, and Andrew Troyer, South Bend; two grandchildren, Austin Troyer and Nicholas Kogelschatz; his mother, Anna Mae Troyer, Goshen; a sister, Pat (Dennis) Weaver, Goshen; and a brother, Randy (Candy) Troyer, Middlebury. He was preceded in death by his father. Allen graduated from Bethany Christian High School in 1967 and Hesston College in 1969. He was a pilot for the University of Notre Dame since Jan. 2002. An exceptional pilot, he was offered two different positions at a recent NBAA (National Business Aircraft Association) convention. Allen was a band Dad at Concord High School from 1997 to 2004 while his children were involved, and continued to volunteer with the band until 2012. He was a kind and generous man and loved by many. Allen was a 20-year charter member of the New York Central Railroad Museum, Elkhart. He enjoyed farming and sailing on Lake Michigan out of South Haven, Mich. Friends may call 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, 1911 S. Main St., Goshen. A 10 a.m. Monday funeral service will be held at Belmont Mennonite Church, 925 Oxford Street, Elkhart. Following the meal, burial will be at Olive West Cemetery, Elkhart. Memorial contributions may be given to Water for Life, Haiti. Online condolences shared at yoderculpfuneralhome.com.
