Betty Clayton Obituary
LA PORTE - Betty Jane Ribordy Clayton, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away suddenly in Arlington, Virginia on December 24, 2013. She was born to Floyd & Mildred Ribordy on January 21, 1923. On November 22, 1945, in La Porte, she married Lloyd Clayton who preceded in death December 29, 2004. She grew up in Door Village and graduated from Purdue University in 1944. Jane was a Home Economics and English teacher for 17 years, retiring in 1974. She was an active member of Salem Chapel UM Church, as well as of Extension Homemaker's Club, the La Porte Hospital Board of Directors, and Delta Kappa Gamma. She is survived by siblings Dean (Pat) Ribordy and Phyllis (Jim) Woolsey; children, Dr. David Clayton, Nancy Clayton Ault, and Vane (Cassandra) Clayton; and grandchildren, John (Tracy) Clayton, Scott (Cheryl) Clayton, Dr. Elizabeth Ault, Lynne Ault, Katherine Clayton, and Sydney Clayton. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Thursday, January 02, 2014 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm & 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm and Friday, January 03, 2014 from 10:00 am - 11:00 am at the church. A life celebration will be held at Salem Chapel United Methodist Church, Friday January 3, 2014 at 11:00 am with Rev. Robert Raschka officiating. Interment will follow at the Door Village Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions to the Lloyd G. and Betty Jane Clayton Scholarship Fund, c/o Unity Foundation of La Porte County Inc., P.O. Box 527, Michigan City, IN 46361.
