SOUTH BEND - Bridget Echard-Morris, age 28, of South Bend, Indiana, died in her home on January 27, 2013, of complications from Crohn's disease. Bridget was born in South Bend, Indiana, on January 28, 1984, to Benjamin Echard and Colleen Braunsdorf Echard. She graduated from Penn High School in 2002 and attended Indiana University at South Bend. Before her illness forced her to stay home, Bridget worked at 1st Source Bank and Fifth Third Bank as a commercial loan officer. On October 1, 2005, she married Jeffrey P. Morris at Christ the King Catholic Church in South Bend. Jeff and Bridget have a daughter, Bailey, who is 4 years old. Bridget was diagnosed with Crohn's disease when she was barely a teenager. Her battle with the disease was a courageous one, fought with hope and determination. Bridget helped found the local chapter of the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America and served as Chairperson of the first walkathon in St. Joseph County. At the walkathon, Bridget was honored as the top fundraiser, single-handedly raising over $30,000 to combat the disease. In 2012, the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation awarded her a Certificate of Appreciation for all of her hard work. Bridget fought her battle with a fierce determination, never giving up hope to one day live a Crohn's-free life. She mentored and counseled others with the disease and taught everyone she knew the meaning of resilience. Bridget never lost her love for life nor her characteristic 'spunk.' She loved to scrapbook and to talk with her nearly 700 friends on Facebook. She also loved all things Disney. She was a devoted wife and mother, a loyal friend, and a blessing to her family. Left to cherish Bridget's memory are her husband, Jeff, and daughter, Bailey, her mother, Colleen Braunsdorf Echard, and father, Benjamin Echard, and her brother, Andrew Findley, and stepmother, Christine Findley. Also surviving are her grandparents, Camilla and Warren Braunsdorf and Rose Echard; her mother and father-in-law, Jeff and Luanne (Hegedus) Morris; and brother-in-law, Jacob Morris. Bridget also leaves numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. A grandfather, William Echard, preceded her in death. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 31, 2013, at Christ the King Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the family to help with Bailey's future education. I have fought the good fight to the end, I have run the race to the finish, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7 To send condolences, please visit www.kaniewski.com.
