Darrell L. Wigent July 7, 1947 - July 7, 2014 GRANGER - Darrell L. Wigent passed away peacefully with his family at his side on his 67th birthday at 4:01 PM at Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Darrell was born on July 7, 1947, in Mishawaka, to the late Don and Betty (Slauson) Wigent. Darrell married Leona (Kazmirski) Wigent on July 3, 1968, at Fort Hood in Texas, after his return from Vietnam. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Leona; and two sons, Brian (Stacey) and Brad of South Bend; his granddaughter, Victoria; and two brothers, Dennis (Sally) of Cedar Springs, MI, and Don (Vicky) of South Bend. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Darrell was set to retire on July 31st after 42 years as a driver for Transpo. He was also an Army veteran, having served in Vietnam from 1967 1968, and he received a Purple Heart. He was a good, kind, and hardworking man. He enjoyed time spent with family, fishing, going to the casino and NASCAR. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. The family would like to thank all the caring and compassionate nurses in the ICU and 9th floor at Memorial for their care of both Darrell and our family. The family also wants to thank all those who kept Darrell and our family in their prayers; you gave us strength. Visitation will be on Thursday, July 10, from 4-8 PM, with a wake service at 7:30 PM at Saint Pius X Catholic Church, 52553 Fir Rd., Granger. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 11, at 11:00 AM at the church, with visitation one hour prior.
