MISHAWAKA - Donald Elroy Kime Jr., age 69, of Mishawaka, IN, former 20-year resident of Fairbanks, AK, passed away on January 21, 2014, after a 4-year fight with cancer. Don was born in South Bend, IN, on August 11, 1944, to Donald Kime Sr. and Evelyn Kime (Brown). He graduated from Penn High School and attended Indiana University in Bloomington. Don went on to become a career Journeymen Sheet Metal worker known for the exacting quality of his work and innovative designs. Don raised his family in Mishawaka, Indiana, where he coached baseball, flag football and served as President of Northside Little League. In the early 80s he moved to Alaska, where he worked, played and made many friends. After moving back to Indiana he would speak fondly about his experiences and friends in Alaska. In the late 90s Don moved back to Indiana to spend time with his mother, sister, son and granddaughters. He enjoyed traveling with his granddaughters to dance competitions, even going to Ireland with them. To his many friends Don was known as a joker with a quick, dry sense of humor. Don enjoyed taking fishing trips to remote locations in Alaska and Canada with his longtime, close friends. He is survived by his son, Raymond (Rocky) Kime, and daughter-in-law, Donna Kime; and granddaughters, Michelle and Hanna Kime. There will be a remembrance gathering for Don on February 23 from 1 PM to 2:30 PM at The Blue Lantern Restaurant and Lounge, Mishawaka, Indiana.
